the continuing adventures

I have a website (a few actually). I am still getting used to this concept. The idea is that I am posting things everyday. Even my twitter should count toward that. The truth is that I am in transition. It’s very exciting. I’m crossing things off that list that I wasn’t sure I would ever get to.

Despite all the changes, I am still holding steady on my regular gigs. If you try to get a hold of me anytime between Thursday afternoon and Sunday morning good luck because I am staying busy.

THURSDAY:

MXMSTR KRSHN2N at the Sidelines. – I play hip hop and pop videos. It’s sick.

FRIDAY:

REGGAE JAMDOWN – DJ Dub Cowboy on KHSU 90.5FM and KHSU.ORG (Reggae Jamdown event coming April 22 @ Hum Brews – save the date)

MXMSTR KRSHN2N at Raggs Rack Room in Eureka. – awesome joint, the music starts at 9:30 and the crowd always gets popping. Free until 10PM.

SATURDAY:

MXMSTR KRSHN2N at the Sidelines. Saturday is the original DJ Night at the Original Humboldt County DJ Bar. Sometimes the floor is packed before I even start the music.

The other exciting thing going on is I am rebuilding a pair of Technics SL-1200M3D. I recently upgraded the touring decks, so my stand-bys will get a head to toe makeover and stay parked in the new studio space.

Don’t try this at home

MXMSTR KRSHN2N – VIDEO MSHDWN Every Thursday at the Sidelines

..if you are still stumped on the DJ name, Mixmaster Crushington is the alias I use for Top 40 Hip Hop and R&B nights. It has too many letters so I cut it down a little bit. That is what I do on the decks as well. I mix the best of mainstream music while putting my own spin it. I’m not a human jukebox, so don’t think asking me for a request is going to help the situation.

I’m mixing music videos along with the audio. I use a specialized mixer that translates my fader movements (the volume controls) to transition effects and the video is synced with the audio being control by each turntable. Yes, several leaps and bounds were made over the last decade and I can control a music video with an analog turntable. By using a special vinyl record with a Control Signal engraved on it, I can scratch audio as if if was actually engraved into the record. The system I use is called Serato Scratch Live and you’ll probably hear about it a lot on this website, but we’ll save that for some future posts.

For now, you got to know that the Sidelines is one of my favorite places to play and I have been there every Thursday for over 6 years. I know how to rock that spot and I do it well. I bring in extra speakers so you get the proper sound, and keep the mix on lock from 10PM to 1:20AM. You can pretty much count on hearing some Bay Area Hyphy, some LA Jerkin, all that new Euro House Pop, and of course classic dance jams from the now all the way back to the 60s. I keep it fun and keep it pumping and I hope to see you there.

CRUSH IT!

Welcome to DJDubCowboy.com

If you made it here, maybe you are following the link in the phone book. If that is the case, I am a DJ for hire in Humboldt County, CA. I can do private events such as weddings, anniversaries, and birthday parties. I also perform publicly on the radio and in local nightclubs.

This site will be the home of all things DJ Dub Cowboy. I’ve used a few aliases over the years and for the time being all the info on ALL my works as a DJ will be found here.

I know the site is very basic, but its the start of something grand. Rather than holding up an UNDER CONSTRUCTION sign and making you wait for the final edition, you will get to see this site develop over time. This is one of SIX sites that are being launched under the HumboldtDJ network. More info will be coming in the next few weeks, but I can tell you now that this is the culmination of a decade of planning and experimenting. There will be lots of announcements to make and lots of gratitude to express, so for now…all I can say is, “Thanks for Visiting.”

If you would like to talk to me further please contact me, DJ Dub Cowboy aka Dan Giannotta and ask about my services. I can be reached in the 707 at 65-DJDUB.

You can also email me directly at djdubcowboy [at] yahoo.com
